Narratives
The central framework for tracking signals over time—and the structural forces, rivalries, and systems they illuminate.
Narratives are not a loose set of themes. They are the core framework Polybian uses to track signals over time—developments that indicate movement, positioning, capability, or stress—and to organize the world into larger structural patterns. Written analysis on the platform draws from that layer to explain how a given narrative is evolving.
How the platform works
Signals
Signals are specific developments—policy decisions, military movements, economic shifts, institutional actions, and other meaningful indicators of change. Each signal captures not only what happened, but what it suggests about direction, positioning, capability, or stress.
Narratives
Narratives are the core framework Polybian uses to track signals over time. They are the underlying forces and structural patterns through which developments can be interpreted. As signals accumulate, narratives become clearer, sharper, and more useful for understanding where the world is moving.
Analysis
Analysis is written intelligence built from the narrative layer. It synthesizes signals and explains how a narrative is evolving, giving users a deeper view of strategic direction over time.
Polybian is designed to move from observation to understanding. Signals identify movement. Narratives track and structure that movement over time. Analysis draws on those narratives to explain how the world is changing.
The narrative framework
Tier 1 — Structural
These determine the future.
Demographics
Population growth, decline, migration, and age structure reshape long-term economic and political power.
Institutions
The strength and legitimacy of political and international institutions determine the stability of order.
Climate
Climate change acts as a stress multiplier across resources, migration, and state stability.
Tier 2 — Power
These determine alignment.
US–China
The central great-power rivalry shaping trade, technology, and global order.
Russia–NATO
The contest over European security and deterrence.
Global South
The increasing agency of non-Western states in shaping global alignment and institutions.
Tier 3 — Economic
These determine incentives.
Trade
Global trade is becoming more fragmented and strategically driven.
Monetary system
Financial systems, currencies, and reserves shape global leverage.
Resources
Energy, minerals, and supply chains underpin modern power.
Tier 4 — Technology / Warfare
These determine capability.
AI
A general-purpose technology reshaping economic and military power.
Semiconductors
Critical chokepoints in advanced technology production.
Military
Rearmament and evolving warfare capabilities reshape deterrence.
Tier 5 — Information / Control
These determine perception and governance.
Information warfare
Competition through narrative control, influence, and disinformation.
Digital sovereignty
The contest over data, platforms, and digital regulation.
Polybian’s narrative framework is designed to deepen over time. As signals accumulate across regions and domains, narratives become more refined, more historically grounded, and more useful for understanding long-term structural change. Platform analysis draws from this process, translating tracked developments into coherent intelligence.
Why narratives matter
The purpose of Polybian is not to increase information volume, but to improve strategic clarity. Narratives are the organizing layer through which signals are tracked and interpreted; deeper analysis extends that work—so developments are read as part of larger patterns, not as a stream of disconnected events.
